Natchez Mississippi

A few weeks ago we made a trip to Natchez Mississippi. This historic town was big with the cotton trade. It is right on the Mississippi River and is full of antebellum homes. It was seriously the most charming town I have ever seen. Every street we turned down had the most beautiful homes and quant streets. We spent the whole day walking around and exploring the town. We did one tour of a home that was never finished. The girls actually had a really fun time even though it wasn't full of very exciting things for them to do. I loved it. I really want to go back in the spring. I only got a few pictures. We went on a hunt for this old church that had been a part of  a plantation. The plantation burned down in the civil war and now there is this old church in the middle of nowhere. It was pretty tricky to find and  it gave me the serious creeps, but it was still really cool to see. If you ever come down to Mississippi, Natchez should be on your bucket list.

The girls were so good during the tour. It was not easy to be quiet and still for that long. As soon as they had the green light to run and play, they took full advantage!

Where Troubles Melt Like Lemon Drops

This was our first Halloween where we weren't wearing coats and I was actually worried Grace might get too hot.  It was a fun change from the cold, cold Halloweens we have had in Michigan. I really do miss Michigan the most right now. Fall doesn't really happen in Mississippi. The leaves just kind of turn brown and fall off and it's still in the 80's every day. There aren't really a lot of Fall activities either. We did find a great place about an hour south of us. I will post about that later. We decided on the Wizard of Oz this year after asking Violet tons of times what she wanted to be. She really had no idea and would change her mind all the time but then not really care. Luckily I went home in September and my Grandma Porter helped me whip up the girl's costumes. I of course, pulled mine and Mikes off 2 days before. Violet did have a wig to go with this costume but it didn't show up until after I took pictures. She was so excited about her red shoes and getting to wear lipstick. I was so happy Grace decided she was okay wearing her costume. I had tried it on a couple times before and she was not a huge fan. The girls were both sick after our ward trunk or treat. I was nervous it would ruin Vi's birthday and then possibly Halloween too. Luckily they recovered in time. The girls had such a blast trick or treating. Grace got into it and was so cute hearing her say trick or treat and thank you. I thought Vi might be too shy this year to say anything. She has gotten a lot more shy since we moved. I was proud of her for not getting too nervous and always saying thank you. We went over in the neighborhood right next to where we live. We went for a solid hour and a half and the girls were happy and content the whole time. It was so fun!

Cotton

One thing that I had been looking forward to with our move to Mississippi was seeing cotton bloom. I had never seen a cotton plant and it is such a huge part of the South. We got some general directions from some of the other dental residence. We set off on a Saturday morning in hopes of finding a field that hadn't been harvested yet. We were lucky enough to find one. It was crazy hot and the girls did not last long at all. I love the pictures and I am so happy that we did it! They loved grabbing it and throwing it in the air. They called it bunnies. We brought a few home with us. It was also a fun chance for us to see more of Mississippi and the landscape. We drove over to what is considered the Delta. This is where a lot of the crops are grown. It was a really beautiful area. It has been fun to get out on some adventures while we are here.
